Bearing in mind that I start almost every morning by thinking oooh COFFEE! and could happily wallow in a bottomless pit of affogato, I can’t believe that it’s taken me until now to write about this particular cocktail, esp as it’s generally a go-to for me. I’d suggest that if sleeping is ever an issue for you (as it is for me) then decaf coffee is your friend here, but if you want to go for the full experience then be my guest – and don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Ingredients
1 measure Vodka
1 measure Kahlua/Tia maria
1 measure (possibly decaf) espresso
Ice
Method
- Pop your glass in the freezer to chill.
- When it’s time to get the party started, pop a good handful of ice into your shaker, then add the vodka and coffee liqueur of choice.
- Finally add the coffee (if you add it first it’ll melt the ice) and shake the whole lot like crazy.
- Pour into the chilled glass and top with some coffee beans if you want it to look really pretty, if not then just dive in.
Note: Obv you can play around with the proportions – some people like less liqueur to remove a bit of the sweetness that it adds, but its a subjective thing and all variations are valid.
